K9 c.a.r.e.s. supports the Colorado Victims Rights Act, C.R.S. Section 24-4.1-302.5. Rights Afforded to Victims, through its Advocate Dog program. The Advocate Dog program provides services to victims through local law enforcement agencies and judicial systems using Delta Society registered canines.

The K9 C.A.R.E.S programs assist trauma victims recover in a unique and special way with the assistance of specially trained therapy dogs to reach the heart and soul of its victims by breaking down barriers to enable victims to work through emotional trauma towards recovery.

All volunteers who provide services directly to victims and witnesses are required to meet stringent training and qualification requirements. K9 c.a.r.e.s. teams provide services for victims and immediate families of victims. Crisis intervention services and victim assistance resources are provided in compliance with the Colorado Victim Rights Act.

K9 C.A.R.E.S is working to develop their programs as a recognized form of Animal Assisted Therapy in both the law enforcement and Criminal justice settings; as well as introducing this program to help many more victims through the loving touch of advocate dogs.

One of the program's great strengths is that it combines the skills of victim advocacy and animal-assisted therapy. This advanced program guides crisis response and crisis intervention with the compassionate assistance of highly trained canines.
