Become a K9 c.a.r.e.s. Facility!

If your facility is considering a therapy dog program for your facility you can be assured the K9 c.a.r.e.s. has the highest standards in providing fully qualified volunteer therapy dog teams in a wide variety of venues including police departments, courts, libraries, hospitals, hospices, family shelters and child advocacy organizations. K9 c.a.r.e.s. is a volunteer organization and does not charge fees for its services.

K9 c.a.r.e.s. can provide additional assurances about its volunteers through background checks, verification of current training and certification credentials, and facility specific training and qualifications.

Involvement of the leadership of your organization is important to the success of a therapy dog program.

Following are the steps that a typical organization or facility goes through:

1) Survey your organization for support from your leadership and key influencers.

2) Arrange for initial informational meetings provided by K9 c.a.r.e.s..

3) Initiate a pilot program to identify specific areas to fine tune as the program is scaled up.

4) Provide feedback on the pilot program and fine tune as needed.

5) Gradually grow the program with interested volunteers.

6) Provide quarterly feedback via surveys and in-person conferences.

We are fortunate to be the pilot site for the K9 c.a.r.e.s. Victim Support Court Advocate Dog program. ‘Our’ Golden Caitee is a great help to our victims before and after they testify. Caitee's friendship has a special impact on the children and violent crime victims. To be honest, there are days our staff (including me) can use some “Caitee time. K9 c.a.r.e.s. has been a "golden" opportunity for our office and the victims we serve!”

Don Quick,  Adams County District Attorney 10/2011
