Become a K9 c.a.r.e.s. Therapy Dog Team!
Going through the process of becoming a therapy dog team can be a daunting task, K9 c.a.r.e.s. uses a "Follow the Path" model to make your journey as simple as possible. Before you sign up for a workshop you will want to make sure that your dog has good manners in public places, and has the social skills to visit with strangers. You, as the dog’s handler and advocate, must also have the skills to work well with your animal and the clients at facilities that you will serve.
There are several steps to becoming a K9 c.a.r.e.s team:
-
1) Attend a Delta Society Pet Partner workshop. Visit the Workshops page for more information.
-
2) Go through a handler/canine evaluation. Visit the Evaluations page for more information.
-
3) Have the Health of Your Animal Partner Screened by a Veterinarian.
-
4) Submit Your Delta Society Pet Partner Registration Application.
-
5) Select a K9 c.a.r.e.s. facility to visit. There are several well established facilities in the Denver area.
-
6) Complete the facility orientation requirements.
